The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has announced the shortlist of 10 Emiratis out of over 100 applicants for the UAE Analog Mission#1, as part of the Scientific International Research in Unique Terrestrial Station (SIRIUS 20/21), an eight-month analog mission conducted at the NEK ground-based analogue facility in Moscow, Russia.

WAM/SWGL - The UAE's Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has shortlisted 15 space technology startups for its "Innovation Challenge," as part of its participation in the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition's (GITEX) Future Stars.

The UAE has announced that its first astronaut will be launched to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 with the assistance of the Russian space agency, Roscosmos. This confirms rumours circulating last month about the possibility of the UAE's first astronaut being sent into orbit in 2019, despite the fact that the selection for the UAE's four-person astronaut corps has yet to be completed.

The UAE Space Agency's influential Advisory Committee met in late April 2018 to review and assess the activities and developments of the Emirati space programme. This third annual meeting, held in Abu Dhabi, included discussion of current and future space projects, along with methods of further developing the sector’s capabilities in scientific research, space technology, and human capacity.

Leaders and senior officials from a number of Arab space agencies have committed themselves to further regional space cooperation, and provided updates on their national space programmes, at the Global Aerospace Summit 2018 held at the St. Regis Hotel on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island on 30 April and 1 May 2018.
