In the present era, the global landscape is shifting towards increased multipolarity. The world has been fractured in antagonizing spheres of political and economical hegemony, resulting in both competition and conflict. The Russo-Ukrainian war continues. China is broadening its economical and geopolitical influence through grand-investments and the support of evolving economies. The BRICS have doubled their members and a variety or regional alliances appear to take shape. Europe faces the task of adjusting to the evolving power dynamics.

A delegation from the French Space Agency CNES visited Colorado and Texas last week to expand ties between French and American aerospace companies, reported Space News. The officials plan to establish virtual hubs in Denver and Houston for Connect by CNES, a government initiative to spur space-related innovation. 

The European Investment Fund (EIF) announced today that it is committing €60 million in equity to Alpine Space Ventures (ASV), a German-based venture capital fund focusing on the NewSpace sector. With this investment, ASV’s committed capital passes the €100 million mark, bringing it closer to the target of €160 million, expected to be achieved later this year.

The very existence of human life on earth today is dependent on space-based services. From banking and money transfers to streaming online content and using maps, the internet and other technological capabilities are being widely used by everyone across the world. From the individual level to the international level, space-based services play a crucial role. However, there are still many challenges and threats within the space domain, that need to be addressed at the national, regional, and global levels. All these imply the fact that space is both a competent and vulnerable domain in the contemporary world.

Nanosatellite manufacturer and operator GomSpace, has signed an over US $4-million contract with satellite technology company Unseenlabs, to deliver six more satellites. The spacecraft are expected to be delivered by  Q3/Q4 of 2023.  The new satellites will be based on an upgraded platform the two companies co-developed in an ongoing project.

The State of the Satellite Industry Report about a decade ago had estimated global industry revenues for 2013 as $189 Billion. The same report today, in its June 2022 edition estimates the global industry to be worth about $386 Billion annually. For an industry that has been carefully regulated and closely tracked by Governments around the world, the last decade of nearly doubling annual revenues is a stellar achievement.

Space In Africa published the the African Space Industry Annual Report displaying how space economy is becoming a strategic tool for boosting the national economy and contributing toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa.  According to the report, the African space industry was valued at USD 19.49 billion in 2021.

Launch vehicle company Isar Aerospace, has entered into a launch services agreement with space logistics company D-Orbit, to launch its ION Satellite Carrier to a Sun-synchronous orbit aboard Isar’s Spectrum rocket from Andøya, Isar said. Under the agreement, D-Orbit will become Isar’s primary customer from 2023.
