UAE’s MBRSC Wins the First IAF Excellence in 3G Diversity Award at IAC 2017

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) wins the first International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Excellence in 3G Diversity Award at the International Astronautical Congress. The Centre received the award from the IAF for its contributions to the fostering of “3G” (Geography, Generation, Gender) Diversity within the space sector. Eng. Salem Al Marri, Assistant Director General for Scientific and Technical Affairs at MBRSC received the Award from the President of the IAF, Dr. Jean-Yves Le Gall and Chair of the Award Committee, Mrs. Mary Snitch, during a ceremony held at the current edition of the IAC, in Adelaide, Australia.

Dr. Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of the International Astronautical Federation, said, “The MBRSC has demonstrated to be an outstanding organization, having diversity in their genes. They are an example to the entire space community. The IAF is proud to give its first “IAF Excellence in 3G Diversity Award” to such an impressive organization contributing to the fostering of the 3G Geography, Generation and Gender.”

Commenting on the award, H.E. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, said, “we are honoured to receive the first IAF Excellence in 3G Diversity Award, which reflects our strategy since 2006; Geography, Generation, Gender.”

Al Shaibani pointed out that, “the Centre has built strategic partnerships with different organizations and has cooperation ties around the world. We have started with a strategic partnership with Satrec Intiative with a knowledge transfer programme to gain the knowledge of building satellites. It was a cornerstone in owning the basic requirements for a satellite industry, namely, building national capabilities and which lead to the success in localizing a space sector in the country”.

Al Shaibani added, “MBRSC proved its international presence, through establishing partnerships with international institutions reflecting its openness and cooperation to serve the development of space sector and its peaceful uses.”

Al-Shaibani stressed that the, “MBRSC team gave an honourable image of the Emirati youth.” He pointed out that, “the team is leading important projects that will serve humanity and human life, in which they are creative and innovative in implementing them.” He noted that “UAE women are leading and contributing to the success of the UAE space projects.”

Al Shaibani concluded, “The Centre will continue its efforts to achieve the UAE’s vision to the space sector, to be among the world’s most competitive space countries, reflecting the directions of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, and general supervisor of all projects of the Centre and its strategic and development plans.”
