Arabsat has announced the launch of the Mauritanian TV bouquet exclusively in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe on board its satellite Arabsat Badr-4. This will contribute to the delivery of Mauritanian broadcasting to its large section of viewers in Europe, because of Arabsat BADR-4’s excellent footprint over North Africa, Middle East, and Europe.
Khalid Balkheyour, Chief Executive Officer of Arabsat, said that such an initiative is considered as another remarkable milestone in Arabsat’s partnership with Arabic broadcasting television bodies. “We are proud to be the exclusive carrier of the Mauritanian bouquet for several years, and now we are thrilled to deliver the Mauritanian channels to all viewers in Europe and the Arab world, via Arabsat BADR -4.”
“We are delighted to launch the package of Mauritanian channels -exclusively- on Arabsat BADR-4,” Says Mohamed Dieh Sidaty, General Director of the Mauritanian broadcasting cooperation. “We have a keen interest to ensure the proper delivery of the Mauritanian channels to all its viewers across Europe and the Arab world, whom are always following news and media content from their home country, noting also the remarkable growth in the value proportions of Arabsat TV broadcasting hotspot at 26 degrees East.”
The Mauritanian TV bouquet is part of an initiative by the Mauritanian Ministry of Interior, Post and Telecommunications and the Mauritanian parliament in Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania, to upgrade and improve the range of telecommunications and media choices for their citizens in the North-West African country. Mauritania has, until recently, a low rate of penetration of modern communications outside of Nouakchott, but has taken steps to increase the use of modern communications and as a result a corresponding increase in Mauritanian media content.
Arabsat’s BADR-4 was built by EADS Astrium, now Airbus Defence and Space, and launched from Russia in November 2006. BADR-4 operates in the C- and Ku-bands from 26° East in geostationary orbit at 36,000 kilometers altitude.
