The Algerian channel DTV and Arab Satellite Communication Organization -Arabsat – signed a contract today to re-launch and broadcast the DTV channel over the Maghreb and north-west Africa on Arabsat satellite Badr-5, where all viewers in the Maghreb and North West African countries will be able to watch DTV around the clock.

DTV Algeria is a former privately owned Algerian commercial television chain based in Oran, Algeria, and is owned by the Mourad Mechai Media Group. Initially launched on 1 March 2015 and on air until 22 December 2015, DTV was the third most watched television channel in Algeria, achieving 13 per cent market share. DTV was originally broadcast on NileSat.

The new and re-launched DTV is a general entertainment channel that includes many prominent West Algerian editors. DTV programming will also include entertainment, music, soap operas, and Arab and Western films for all age groups.

Nabil Shanti, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Arabsat, said, “DTV broadcast on Arabsat satellite Badr-5 represents another step on the way to enrich what Arabsat has to offer to its viewers in Algeria, Morocco and the Arab world, as DTV enjoys an increasing wide viewership.”

Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ARABSAT has been serving the growing needs of the Arab world for almost 40 years. Now one of the world’s top satellite operators and by far the leading satellite services provider in the Arab world, it carries over 500 TV channels, 160 radio stations, pay-TV networks and wide variety of HD channels reaching tens of millions of homes in more than 80 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Europe—including an audience of over 170 million viewers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region alone tuned into ARABSAT video “hotspot” at 26° East.
